Welcome! GUD Design-a-thon is an adrenaline-packed 24-hour event organized by the Gator User Design Club, aimed at igniting creativity and showcasing design prowess. The event brings together creatives and design enthusiasts for a non-stop creativity, collaboration, and innovation experience. We invite you to explore our site and learn more about our upcoming event, exciting workshops, prizes, and our sponsors.

Event Rules:

  • All members of your team must be an undergraduate college student with an associated institutional email.

  • Teams must not exceed four people total.

  • Each team may only submit one submission.

  • All work submitted to UF Design-a-thon must be original work. Any submissions with plagiarized work will be disqualified.

  • All designs must be made between the dates of April 6th, 2024 to April 7th, 2024.

  • Late submissions will not be accepted.

  • If there are any adjustments made to your prototype after April 7th, 2024, 3:30 pm, your submission will not be considered for judging.

Design-a-thon: Workshop #1

  • Theme: Intro to Design Systems

  • Speaker: Winona (Designer, Sales Content at Pinterest)

  • Background: Winona Nasser is a visual & UX designer with experience innovating for consumer social, mobile, and web.  At Pinterest, she designs tools and visuals for the sales content team. Her previous endeavors include creative direction and design for HBO Max, Amazon Alexa, Edward Jones, Nike, and Facebook Campus.

Design-a-thon: Workshop #2

  • Theme: Breaking Into Product Design (In The Toughest Job Marker Ever)

  • Speaker: Naheel Jawaid (UX Designer at Google)

  • Background: Naheel is a designer at Google NYC working on AI Video Creation. He also does a plethora of side projects, which include helping run a hip hop youtube channel and teaching design.

Design-a-thon: Workshop #3

  • At 5:00 pm 

  • Theme: Intro to React

  • Speakers: Andrew Ruales and Miguel Jara (ACM Workshop Directors)

  • Backgrounds: Andrew is a senior computer science student and has been an ACM officer for two years. He has two internships and will be working as a SWE after finishing college. Miguel is a 4th year Computer Science major wich a minor in Electrical Engineering. This past summer, Miguel interned at Amazon as a Software Developer where he worked primarily on the front end, and now he has a full-time position lined up at Lennar in Miami as a developer!

  • Theme: The Dark Arts of UX Recruiting

  • Speaker: Adam Syed (Product Designer at Twitch)

  • Background: Adam is a Product Designer at Twitch. Previously, Adam has designed at Facebook and Tesla, including other industries such as blockchain, VR, and self-driving cars. During his free time, Adam enjoys content creation and DJing. You can add his Instagram and YouTube links if you'd like; Adam been posting a lot of design content on his Instagram page.
